The Northern Plains Potato Growers Association (NPPGA) is the marketing arm for Red River Valley Potatoes. This year NPPGA is bringing back Red River Red, a mascot that promoted Red River Valley Potatoes for over two decades beginning in 1950.
The association is comprised of over 200 growers and shippers across North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Our members combine a superior work ethic with modern, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to take full advantage of the uniquely fertile farming conditions that the region has to offer. It’s with great pride that we can say that we serve the finest potato growers in the United States.
While our “Reds” are the potato that made the Red River Valley famous, we are also a top producer of yellow flesh potatoes for the fresh market. We are the nation’s largest producer of red potatoes and the third largest potato-producing region overall supplying potatoes for four distinct markets; fresh, chip, seed and frozen processing.
Each and every one of our growers and shippers are committed to upholding the high standards of quality that comes with Red River Valley potatoes, from the time a seed goes in the ground to when the potato hits the grocers’ shelves. Our growers and shippers have developed a synergy that provides outstanding service, offering near year-round availability, a wide variety of sizes and convenient packaging options.
The Red River Valley potato growers had the first and only grower-owned research farm to study and experiment with variety development, disease control, insect management, processing quality and potato storage innovation. Today our growers fund two research farms, each with different soil types and focused on different growing practices.
We believe our potatoes are the best, and we’re dedicated to ensuring that they stay that way for many years to come.
